The Navratri special recipe that I am going to share today is a unique one. It is the sama rice idli which is prepared with sama rice (which is not even a rice) and sabudana. This one is a great recipe to try if you want variety during your fasting days. Though don’t expect these to be like the rice and urad dal idlis we make otherwise. The texture and taste are quite different but they still taste very good. Here is a step by step recipe of the sama rice idli.

Ingredients:
- Sama rice- 1 cup
- Sabudana- ½ cup
- Baking soda- 2 pinches
- Sendha namak- as per taste
- Water- for soaking
Procedure:
- Â Soak the sabudana and the sama rice for 3-4 hours in enough water.
- Â Drain the excess water from the sabudana and the rice.
- Â Transfer both the ingredients to a grinder and grind to a smooth paste.
-  You need not add extra water as the moisture from the sabudana is enough to ease out the grinding process. Still, if you  think you need some moisture, then add just a few tbsp. of water.
- Â Transfer the mixture to a bowl and leave it overnight or for 9-10 hours and allow it to ferment.
- Â Add salt to the batter and really well.
- Â Heat water in a steamer and grease the moulds with ghee or groundnut oil.
- Â Add the baking soda and mix together.
- Â Fill the moulds with the idli batter and put it in the steamer.
- Â Cook the idlis in the steamer for 9-10 minutes or until they are completely cooked.
- Â Remove the cooked idlis from the steamer and allow them to cool a little.
- Â With the help of a knife remove the idlis from the mould.
- Â Serve the sama rice idli hot/warm with coconut chutney.
