Stardom brings you riches, but little did we know that it brings ‘Fairness’ too! If woman’s beauty is judged by mere parameter of her skin tone, it certainly shies many more things away. Although people usually get fascinated with those glittering skin but beauty with elegance does have its own charm. The ‘Fair Skin Obsession’ has anchored its root so deep these days that even the already beautiful actresses couldn’t resist the temptation of looking snowy white. Earlier, Fairness Treatments were alien things for people and our country was renowned for its chocolicious divas. But today, with advancement of the technology, fairness treatments are no longer a foreign affair for us.

Six sittings of such treatments are required, and the cost of each sitting is 3000-15000 INR.

When too many fairness creams failed to act, people are now going for these overly priced fairness treatments. Many international stars have successfully undergone these treatments and are openly endorsing many of them. Stars like Kim Kardashian and Madonna have endorsed the latest craze of these fairness treatments and regularly partaken in it. Nowadays, this trend has also knocked the doors of our Film Industry. You don’t believe me? Have a look at these celeb’s then and now pictures. How far they’ve come since all these years!

•Kajol

Who wasn’t happy to see her comeback on the silver screen? But didn’t you notice a subtle change in her appearance? Probably her skin. Remember her look when she stepped into the B-town with her first commercial hit, Baazigar. We all loved this dusky complexioned innocent looking girl. But Bollywood’s dark chocolate didn’t seem to embrace her dusky looks though. She seems to have undergone some kind of fairness treatment. But the mother of two denied the rumours and attributed her lifestyle changes to be the major reason behind her lightened skin tone. I wish that this ‘stay at home’ surgeries worked well with other women too!

•Sridevi

We wonder why did this starry eyes diva had to go for a fairness treatment! I guess, she must have undergone the fairness surgery to fit in the Hindi film industry which adores fair complexioned girls over dusky divas. Sridevi has been working in the industry since years, so a visible change can be seen in her complexion if we compare her present day picture and the picture of her childhood or early teens.

•Rekha

Rekha can’t be left behind when we’re talking about tremendous changes while referring to skin tone. She has always been addressed to as a Bold, dusky actress in Bollywood. But now if people of her time see her, they find it hard time to recognize her. Despite of her growing age, her skin looks perfectly glowing and lightened up to 3 shades since years. After coming across women of her ages giving way to such obsessions, you can’t question the younger generations.

•Priyanka Chopra

Recently being popular for her victory at People’s Choice Awards, this Indian beauty is also known for her way too many plastic surgeries as well as fairness treatments. If you’ll see her picture of her Miss World pageant time and her recent images, you will see a clearer and observable change in her skin tone since that time. Though she never accepts it, but she definitely is a queen of cosmetic surgeries. She found her dusky complexion as a hurdle in her way to success. I guess, it’s her inferiority complex that drove her to the fairness treatments clinics.

•Bipasha Basu

This Bengali beauty was at one time famous for her gorgeous dimply smile and her dusky complexion. However, she also claimed that she had no inferiority issues with her skin tone and she’s completely happy with her complexion. But her name is always included in the list of the actresses who went for fairness surgeries to fit in the superficial fairness conscious society. Maybe, the taunts and remarks by the people made her change her mind and get rid of her much loved skin tone. She seems to have went through skin bleaching to enhance her skin tone permanently.

•Hema Malini

You’ll be surprised to have these old aged actresses more in the numbers in the list of actresses who went through fairness surgeries. Though Hema Malini was never so dark to be spotted out by people, still she took no time to ward off her wheatish fair complexion through fairness treatments. Moreover, as she’s ageing, her skin seems to have retorted the science of ageing. She seems to have glowed out overnight and started looking younger and wrinkle free at this age!

•Shilpa Shetty

She has been in limelight since a long time for her IPL endeavours and renunciation from acting. But rumours have been that Shilpa Shetty is also known for her changed skin tone apart from her flawlessly perfect physique even after having a baby. During her pregnancy allegations have been put upon her that she has recently been into some kind of fairness treatment to fit the fair-sick syndrome of our country. But she casually denied all the rumours saying that it was just her pregnancy glow. But I guess pregnancy glow doesn’t retain itself even after the childbirth. Or does it?

•Deepika Padukone
It actually hurts to see her name in the list. She is the heroine who has been always linked with the subjects of women empowerment. But sad to admit that, she is the latest actress to go through fairness treatment to get rid of her much loved golden looks. She really did not need it. Despite of her stunning and striking features, no wonder why she gave way to fairness customs of society. We definitely miss her flawless honey like skin, though!

Sadly these B-town divas weren’t able to hold their fortress strong when it came to hold their morals strong against the society’s obsession for fair looking women. But we do hope, that our younger lot succeeds to set a good example for our upcoming generation.
