1. After opening the packets, the freshness of crackers and cereals may start deteriorating. To restore their freshness, put then them in the microwave on full power for 30 seconds.

2. If you have old bread lying in your refrigerator and you want to turn it into soft fresh bread, then you can use your microwave for doing the same. Wrap the bread in a damp kitchen towel and then heat them in the microwave on full power for 10-15 minutes.

3. If you own a microwave there is no need to pull out utensils for boiling the potatoes. Put the potatoes in a microwave safe zip lock bag, sprinkle them with water and place them in the microwave for 5-6 minutes on full power.

4. Fed up of teary eyes every time you chop onions? Next time, before you go ahead and chop the onions remove their top and bottom part and then place them in the microwave for 30 seconds. Now when you chop the onion you will not shed a single tear.

5. Similarly, you can make the rather painful task of peeling garlic relatively easily by popping the garlic in the microwave for a few seconds. Now when you peel it the peel will come off easily.

6. Toasting the nuts in the microwave is a much easier and quicker alternative to the conventional stovetop and pan method this included toasting the nuts in a pan over a low flame. Spread the nuts in a microwave safe tray or plate and spread the nuts on it. Place the tray/plate in the microwave. Roast the nuts for 4-5 minutes on high. But keep an eye on the nuts while cooking and then allow the nuts to cool down.

7. To melt the crystals formed in honey, remove the cap of the honey jar and place it in the microwave for 2 minutes.

8. To make your own dried herbs, spread the herbs in a baking dish and place it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes on high. If the herbs are not dried completely you can put the herbs in the microwave for another minute or so and your homemade dried herbs are ready.

9. To extract the very last drop of the lemons place them in the microwave for 20 seconds and then squeeze to extract all the juice.

10. No need to set up a double boiler to melt chocolate. You can do the same very easily in the microwave as well. Cut the chocolate into small pieces and put it in a microwave-safe bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove the bowl from the microwave, mix it with a spoon and put it back in the oven for 20 seconds more. If the chocolate is still not melted put it back in the microwave until it is completely melted.
