How to Make Fish Curry

The seafood lovers enjoy eating fish all throughout the year. Pepper fish and fish curry are something that a true fish lover can’t resist. One thing about fish curry is that it is quick and easy to make. So today we’re going to tell you how to make sumptuous fish curry at home with mouth-watering gravy. So note down the ingredients and be ready to prepare fish curry at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fish cut in pieces
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 tbsp. ginger garlic paste
  • 4-5 tbsp. oil
  • 2 tbsp. roasted poppy seeds or ½ cup grated coconut
  • 2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Fresh coriander leaves
  • Tamarind
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • Dry Spices
  • Bay leaf
  • 4 cloves
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 green cardamom
  • For Marination
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder

How to Make the Fish Curry?

  1.  Wash the fish pieces carefully under running water to get rid of any odour.
  2.  Marinate the pieces with the Marination ingredients mentioned above. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  3.  Soak some tamarind in hot water and then squeeze to extract the juices.
  4.  Dry roast the poppy seeds and then grind them to make a fine paste. Add some water to make a paste.
  5.  If you’re choosing grated coconut over poppy seeds, grind some coconut with 1/4th cup water. Extract the coconut milk. Discard the pulp.
  6.  Heat some oil in a thick-bottomed pan. Add the dry spices. Once you start getting the aroma of spices, add the curry leaves and then sauté.
  7.  Add the chopped onions and green chillies. Sauté them till it turns golden.
  8.  Add the ginger garlic paste and sauté it on a low flame.
  9.  Now add the marinated pieces of fish and fry it on the medium flame for 5 minutes. Flip it to the other side carefully and then fry it again.
  10.  Pour some tamarind juice on the pieces. Cover the pan and let the fish cook for 5 minutes on low flame.
  11.  Add the Garam masala powder to the fish. Add the salt and red chilli powder according to your taste. Add some water if needed. Cover it again and then cook it for 4-5 minutes on medium flame.
  12.  Add the coconut milk or the poppy seeds paste prepared in the above steps. Tilt the pan to get the pulusu covered on the pieces. Mix the pulusu while keeping the fish pieces intact. Let the gravy bubble. Cook for some more minutes.
  13.  Add the chopped coriander leaves.
  14.  Serve the fish curry with rice or roti.
