Know More: Indu Malhotra, the First Woman Lawyer Appointed as SC Judge

This morning we woke up with another great news about an India woman creating history. Well, we are talking about Indu Malhotra, the first woman lawyer appointed as SC judge. This news is more interesting because she has become the only woman lawyer who is directly appointed as a Supreme Court judge.

According to the various sources, her name was collectively recommended and now she will be the 7^th woman judge of Supreme Court after India’s independence. And today, she will take the oath to officially rein her role as the Supreme Court judge.

Besides her appointment, there are a lot of things that you need to know about this stellar lady. 

Birthplace and education :

Indu Malhotra was born in 1957, Bangalore in the family of esteemed lawyers. She completed her school education from Carmel Convent School, New Delhi. After that, she obtained a B.A. (H) political science degree from Lady Shri Ram College. Soon, after her graduation, she went on to do master of political science from the same.

Work :

After completing her studies, she worked shortly as a political science professor at Vivekanand College and Miranda House in New Delhi, before she decided to proceed her Bachelor of Law in the year 1979. After that, she became the senior advocate in Supreme Court in the year 2007 and practiced for more than 30 years. And you will be surprised to know, at that time she was the second woman lawyer to hold that position after Justice Leila Seth.

Achievements :

In the year 1988, she received the Mukesh Goswami Memorial Prize for ranking first in the Advocate-on-record examinations. She also wrote the third edition of ‘ Commentary on the Law and Practice of Arbitration in India’ in the year 2014. Apart from this, she is also the onboard trustee of SaveLIFE foundation and has also represented an NGO in a case which made SC pass the law to protect the people who saved lives in road accidents.

At last, we can just say that this woman is really inspiring. And her being the judge, we really hope to see a great change in the judicial system.
