Coconut Chutney Recipe

-

Today I am going to share another chutney recipe. This is a very simple coconut chutney recipe for beginners. The coconut chutney is most preferably served with dosas and idlis but I like to serve it with sandwiches and pakoras as well. At first, it may sound a little weird but trust me, this combination is way too good for you to not try. Here is a step by step recipe of the same.

Ingredients:

  • Fresh coconut- ½ cup, chopped
  • Roasted gram- 2 tbsp.
  • Cumin/jeera- ½ tsp.
  • Green chilli- 1 to 2
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Garlic- 1 clove
  • For the tempering:
  • Oil- 3 tbsp.
  • Mustard seeds- ¼ tsp.
  • Urad dal- ½ tsp.
  • Asafoetida/hing- a pinch
  • Curry leaves- 1 sprig
  • Dried red chilli- 1

Procedure:

  1.  Put the coconut, roasted gram, salt, garlic, cumin and green chillies in a grinder.
  2.  Add 2 tbsp. water in the grinder as well and then blend all the ingredients together.
  3.  Open the lid of the grinder and scrape all the mixture off the sides of the grinder. Add more water and grind again.  Repeat this process a few times until you have a smooth, thick paste.
  4.  Transfer the chutney to a bowl and start with the tempering.
  5.  In a small pan, heat the oil.
  6.  Add the cumin, dal and red chilli.
  7.  When the dal has cooked, or turned golden, add the curry leaves and the asafoetida.
  8.  Pour the tempering over the chutney and mix well.
  9.  Serve the chutney with idli, dosa, etc.
