This kala chana masala recipe can be your everyday’s recipe. It can be the perfect recipe for a quick dinner or lunch. Not only this recipe is quick to make but is also very filling. You can serve it with roti, paratha or even bread.
Here is the step by step recipe of this super easy kala chana masala.

Ingredients:
- Dried black chickpeas/kala chana- 1 cup (soaked overnight in 3 cups of water)
- Onion- 1, medium sized (finely chopped)
- Tomato- 1, large (finely chopped)
- Garlic- 4-5 cloves (chopped)
- Green chilli- 2 (finely chopped)
- Cumin- 1 tsp.
- Kashmiri red chilli powder- ½ tsp.
- Garam masala- ½ tsp.
- Turmeric- ¼ tsp.
- Asafoetida/hing- a pinch
- Oil- 2 tbsp.
- Fresh coriander leaves- 1 tbsp.
- Salt- as per taste
Procedure:
- Â Soak the kala chana overnight (8-9 hours) in 3 cups of water.
- Â Pressure cook the chana along with the water and some salt for 7-8 whistles.
- Â Heat oil in a pan and add the cumin. Roast the cumin until it is toasted.
- Â Add the chopped onions and cook the onions until they are golden.
- Â Now add the chopped garlic and the green chillies. Cook for half a minute.
- Â Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook them until you could see the oil separating from the sides of the masala.
- Â Now add the turmeric, red chilli powder, asafoetida and cook the spices for a few seconds.
- Â Add the cooked kala chana to this prepared masala. Mix the chana well with the masala.
-  Add salt (don’t add too much) and stir again.
- Â Cover and cook the chana on a low flame for about 6-7 minutes or until the chana has soaked up all the flavour of the masala.
- Â Lastly, add the garam masala and mix it well.
- Â Garnish the kala chana masala with fresh chopped coriander.
- Â Serve the kala chana masala with roti, paratha or bread.
