Rajma Kebab Recipe

Mostly all of us are familiar with the “rajma” or kidney beans. It is a staple and one of the most favourite food items of the north Indians. Normally a kidney bean stew is prepared and eaten with roti or most preferably with rice. But that is not all that you can make from the tasty beans. If you are filling a little adventurous then try this rajma kebab recipe. It is a nutritious and tasty starter/snack that everyone one is going to love. Make it for your parties, evening snack or even as a side dish if you want to.
And without any further due let’s get started with the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Kidney beans/rajma- ½ cup (pressure cooked)
  • Potato- 1, large sized (boiled)
  • Oil- 3 tbsp. + 2 tbsp.
  • Onion- ½ cup (finely chopped)
  • Ginger garlic paste- ½ tsp.
  • Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp.
  • Red chilli powder- ½ tsp.
  • Garam masala- ½ tsp.
  • Gram flour/besan- 2 tbsp.
    Lemon juice- ½ tsp.
  • Salt- as per taste

Procedure:

  •  Soak the kidney beans overnight. The next day, drain the water from the kidney beans and rinse the beans with flowing water.
  •  Put the kidney beans in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water and cook for around 18-20 minutes or until the beans have softened completely.
  •  Once the pressure has settled down. Open the lid of the pressure cooker and check if the beans are cooked or not. If not, then cook them for a few more minutes.
  •  Now peel the boiled potato and mash/grate it.
  •  Add the cooked beans to the mashed potato and mash them with your hands or a masher.
  •  In a pan heat 3 tbsp. oil and cook the onions till they are pale golden in colour.
  •  Add the ginger garlic paste and cook till the rawness of the ginger garlic fades away.
  •  Add the gram flour and mix. cook for another 2-3 minute.
  •  Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder and the garam masala and cook for a few seconds. Turn off the flame.
  •  Add the onion and spice mix to the potato and beans mash. mix well.
  •  Add the lemon juice and salt to the mixture and mix again.
  •  Check the seasoning.
  •  Dampen your palms and start forming kebabs using the mixture. you can shape the mixture accordingly.
  •  Heat the remaining 2 tbsp. oil a pan and cook the kebabs on a medium flame. Cook the kebabs on one side until golden brown in colour and then flip the kebab and cook on the other side similarly.
  •  Take out on a plate and serve the rajma kebabs hot with a chutney or your favourite dip.
