Tomato rasam is a very simple and famous South Indian recipe that one can prepare at home easily. Rasam tastes spicy and tangy and one can eat this with rice. This recipe is prepared with tomatoes, tamarind, and various spices.

Ingredients needed to make tomato rasam:
• Water- 3 cups
• Tomatoes- 3
• Peppercorn- 1 teaspoon
• Salt- according to taste
• Tamarind- accordingly
• Curry leaves- 8 to 10
• Asafoetida- a pinch
• Garlic (peeled)- 4 cloves
• Jeera- 2 teaspoons
• Rasam powder- 2 tablespoons
• Mustard seeds- 1 teaspoon
• Coriander leaves- 1/2 cup
• Oil- 2 tablespoons

Now, how to prepare tomato rasam:
• First, wash the tomatoes and cut the top portions.
• Now, cut them into 2-3 vertical pieces.
• In the meantime heat the deep bottomed pan.
• Then, add the chopped tomatoes in the pan.
• Add some water in the pan and let the tomato cook till it becomes soft.
• Transfer the boiled tomatoes in a separate bowl.
• Don’t forget to retain the boiled water.
• Now, let the cooked tomatoes cool for 5 minutes.
• Then, remove the skin and mash them slightly.
• Take a mortar and add garlic cloves with a teaspoon of jeera and peppercorn.
• Now, pound them with the pestile.
• Then, heat the retained water for 2 minutes.
• Add the mashed tomatoes to the water with the pounded paste.
• After that add tamarind and salt and let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
• Now, add rasam powder and bring the water to boil.
• Then, take another pan and heat some oil.
• Add mustard seeds, jeera and curry leaves and hing to the pan.
• Let it cook till they splutter.
• After that pour the tadka onto the rasam.
• Now, add the finely chopped coriander leaves to rasam.
• Then, transfer the rasam to the bowl.
• Your tomato rasam is ready to be served.
