A report carried by a daily publication recently claimed that people who spent a good amount of time in the day to take those perfect selfies are at a risk of developing “selfie elbow”.

It is a real medical condition in which pain occurs in the pic – snapping elbow.
“An award winning journalist and NBC’s today show host Hoda Kotb went to a doctor complaining of pain in her elbow,” elle.com reported.

The publication quoted her saying that she went to an orthopedist who told her is she playing tennis or ping-pong. Kotb said that her answer was no but she told the doctor that she is addicted to taking selfies and the pain in the elbow might be because of that very thing.

“When you take the picture, your arm is up, bent in a weird way and you just click, click, click — think about how many you take: 20, 30, or 40. Selfie elbow, everyone has it,” added Kotb, who is also a good-documented figure on photo-sharing website Instagram.

She was advised by doctor to ice her elbow and to follow some exercise to relieve the soreness. The doctor also advised her to use both arms alternatively if she wants to take selfies anymore in the future.

Jordan Metzl who works as a sports medicine physician at a USA hospital says that the problem is simply overuse.
“You get selfie elbow from taking too many selfies, as you put too much stress on the muscle and it irritates the area where the muscle comes off the bone and you get this inflammatory response,” Metzl added.
