Piercings look extremely cool and take your style quotient to just another level. But getting a piercing is a very painful process and requires a lot of aftercare as well. There are almost 90% chances of a piercing getting infected at some point of time during the healing process. 1. Prevent the infection- You may have heard that prevention is better than cure. Well, it is absolutely true. It is better to take care of your piercing beforehand so that it does not end up getting infected. Make sure to clean your piercing with warm water and a very gentle soap in order to get rid of all the dirt, grime, etc. that may have deposited on it.

2. Wash it with a saline solution- Saline solution is perfect for getting your piercing absolutely clean and infection free without getting it dried out. You can easily prepare this saline solution by combining 1/8 tbsp. of sea salt to a cup of distilled water. Dissolve the salt in the water and use this solution to soak your piercing twice a day for 20 minutes.

3. Keep thy hands clean- Our hands are a carrier of bacteria and germs and when they get in contact with the piercing it gets infected. Thus it is important that you keep your hands clean at all times and also try not to touch your piercing if nor required. This way you reduce the chances of infecting the piercing.

4. Avoid friction- A piercing is nothing but a puncture in your skin which is equivalent to a wound. It needs time to get healed and you also need to avoid any kind of friction from clothes, earphones, etc. as that may infuriate the healing wound.

5. Don’t panic- Any piercing will stay inflamed and sore for a few days after getting it. But if the soreness and redness are very persistent even after a week then there are chances that your piercing may have got infected. But if it is just the soreness of the wound ten it can be easily calmed down by using an ice-pack or ibuprofen.

6. Do not remove jewellery- Some people say that you should remove the jewellery if your piercing gets infected which is completely wrong. In fact, in the case of an infection you should never remove the jewellery as that way the bacteria will get trapped inside the skin and may cause some serious problem in the future. Thus while dealing with an infected piercing you should leave the jewellery on and then get it treated.

7. Seek expert advice- If the condition of your piercing is really bad and you have tried almost everything to treat it at home by yourself then it is probably time to seek expert advice. Get in touch with the piercer as he may recommend you some over the counter medications or just go to the doctor and let him handle the situation.
