Tandoori Chicken Recipe

Tandoori chicken is one of the most beloved chicken starters which is very famous not just in India but the other parts of the world as well. Tandoori chicken is marinated chicken cooked in a tandoor or clay oven which gives it a nice smokey flavour and roast it at a very high temperature. But today in this recipe we are going to share with you how you can prepare tandoori chicken in an electronic oven. Here is a step by step recipe of the same.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken- 4 drumsticks or ¼ kg boneless chicken
  • Oil- 1 tsp.
  • For the marinade:
  • Turmeric/Haldi powder- 1/8 tsp.
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder- ¼ tsp.
  • Lemon juice- 1 tbsp.
  • Salt- as per taste
  • For the second marinade:
  • Yoghurt/curd- 1/3 cup
  • Oil- 2 tbsp.
  • Kasuri methi- 1 tsp.
  • Coriander/dhaniya powder- 1 tsp.
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder-1/2 tsp.
  • Pepper powder- ½ tsp.
  • Ginger garlic paste- 1 ½ tsp.
  • Garam masala powder- 1 tsp.
  • Dried mango or amchur powder- ¼ tsp.

Procedure:

  1.  Wash the chicken under running water and wipe with a kitchen paper towel.
  2.  Add random slits on the chicken pieces.
  3.  In a bowl, combine the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, lemon juice and salt. Add the chicken pieces to this marinade and rub the marinade on the chicken pieces for 3-4 minutes to make them soft and tender. Set them aside.
  4.  Now to another bowl add the curd, oil, kasuri methi, coriander powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder, pepper powder, ginger garlic paste, garam masala and amchur powder. Mix all the ingredients really well.
  5.  Add the chicken to this marinade and marinate it overnight in the refrigerator.
  6.  Before roasting the chicken, preheat the oven at 240 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes.
  7.  Apply foil on a baking tray and place all the chicken along with all the marinade on the foil.
  8.  Apply little bit of oil on the chicken pieces and grill for 15 minutes.
  9.  Again apply some oil and put it in the oven for another 5 minutes.
  10.  Remove the tray from the oven and apply the oil on the other side of chicken and cook for 6-10 minutes.
  11.  When the chicken is cooked, remove it from the tray and place it in a big bowl. To give it a smokey flavour places a burning charcoal near the chicken in the bowl and cover the bowl with a lid for 4-5 minutes.
  12.  Serve the tandoori chicken hot with mint yoghurt chutney, onion rings and lemon.
