Naan is one of the most commonly preferred accompaniments to our gravy and curry dishes (especially when you are eating out). But the thing with naan is that it is made of all-purpose flour which is not a very healthy option. But this recipe of butter naan which I am going to share with you today is made up of both whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour. It is also a no yeast recipe and that makes it even better. So without any further due let’s get started with the recipe.
Ingredients:
- Whole wheat flour- 2 cups
- All-purpose flour- 1 cup
- Curd/yogurt- 3 tbsp.
- Milk- 2 tbsp.
- Water- 2/3 cup or as required
- Sugar- 2 tsp.
- Baking powder- 1 ½ tsp.
- Baking soda- ½ tsp.
- Oil- 3tbsp.
- Onion seeds/kalonji- 1 tbsp.
- Salt for seasoning
Procedure:
- Â In a bowl mix the milk, water, sugar and yogurt. Make sure all the ingredients are well combined.
- Â Pass the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt through a sieve.
- Â Mix the dry and the wet ingredients together and knead to form a dough. If the dough is very dry add some water and form a soft dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
- Â After 10 minutes add oil to the dough and knead it again. Cover with damp cloth and keep it aside to rest for 2 hours.
- Â After the dough has rested well, divide the dough into small balls. Roll the balls and flatten them making small circles.
- Â Now take one of the circles and place it on the rolling surface. Sprinkle some onion seeds on it and roll it into a four to five inch circle.
- Â Heat a tawa and place the naan on it. Cook the naan partly from both the sides and then place it directly on the flame and cook it from both the sides. The naan will get slightly charred.
- Â When cooked, remove the naan from the flame and apply some butter or ghee on it.
- Â Serve the naan hot with your favourite curry or gravy dishes.
