How do you know that the milk you’re buying is fit for consumption? How can you be sure that it is the ‘real’ milk? Well, there’s no sure shot way to say that affirmatively. But there are number of simple ways to test for the adulterated food items. It is very important that you check the quality of milk you’re consuming, periodically. Many a times, even your most preferred brand contains a number of chemicals that are potentially harmful for your health. The kids and the elder ones with poor immunity are usually more at the risk.

So here are the 2 tests which you can carry out at your home to check whether the milk you consume is pure or not.

1. Milk Slip Test
Take a polished vertical surface. You can use a glass plate for this purpose. Pour a drop of milk over it. If it flows slowly while leaving a white coloured trail behind it, then it is pure. But if it is mixed with water or other contaminants, then it will flow immediately without leaving any trail behind.

2. Reduction Test
Take some milk and boil it on a low heat. Keep stirring it with a spoon till it becomes solid like khoya. Turn off the heat and keep it aside for 2-3 hours. Observe the solid produced by the milk. If the solid is oily, then the milk is pure. If the solid produced is plastic type, then the milk definitely contains some contaminants.
