5 Home Remedies to treat PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) has become common issue among women these days. Mostly women who are diagnosed with PCOS include fitness routines; they take medications to keep the symptoms under control. There is also a whole array of natural home remedies available for it and most of them are available in kitchen pantry. Following are the ways to treat PCOS:

Consumption of fenugreek seeds or leaves helps in maintaining insulin level to normal. Methi or fenugreek improves glucose tolerance of body, which helps in weight loss. Soak 1 tbsp methi seeds overnight in a glass of water and drink this methi soaked water on an empty stomach in the morning. Eating cooked methi leaves also possess same benefits.

Flaxseeds are great source of fibre, omega 3 fatty acids, lignans and omega 6 fatty acids, lignin is a protein that reduces quantity of testosterone in body. Flaxseeds help in utilization of glucose in the body, thereby canceling the side effects of PCOS. Add ground flax seeds to food such as cereal or breakfast smoothie or eat them as morning or evening snack, make sure to chew it well for best results.

Cinnamon is used as condiment in desserts and several food recipes for its earthy and spicy taste. As doctors suggest it to women who are diagnosed with PCOS. This condiment has proven benefits in curing type 2 diabetes. It inhibits insulin resistance and helps in stabilizing blood sugar level of the body. Research also proves that this spice increases the odd of conceiving. Cinnamon can be added to milkshakes, breakfast cereal, yogurt, muffin and cakes and also in tea as well. Cinnamon helps in losing weight as it improves the metabolism of the body.

4. Gooseberry or Amla

Amla or Gooseberry has a high content of Vitamin C in it and it is a great food item to incorporate into diet when dealing with PCOS. Amla enhances the blood sugar levels and also improves the fertility. It cleanses the system and flushes out toxins from the body. Amla can be eaten directly or extracting its juice and drinking it after diluting it with water.

5. Tulsi

Women diagnosed with PCOS have excessive acne and facial hair growth. The reason behind it is simply because the ovulation process does not take place, and the androgens also do not get utilized. And the SHBG protein secreted by the liver is very less. Holy basil or Tulsi is widely known to control production of androgens and it helps in regulating the insulin levels in body. It is rich in antioxidants. Chew 10-12 tulsi leaves in the morning before eating the breakfast or boil the tulsi leaves in water and drink it like a hot drink.
