1. Choose the right cleanser- You may not be aware of it but your facial cleanser may lead to dry and flaky skin due to the presence of harsh chemicals in it. If you are still using the same cleanser you were using during summer, then you need to switch to a cleanser which has moisturising properties. Go for a cleanser which has ingredients like glycerine, almond oil, etc. and stay away from products with salicylic acid and glycolic acid.

2. Moisturise your skin- It is one of the most important steps to soft and moisturised skin. The best time to apply moisturiser is right after you wash your face. Apply the moisturiser while your face is slightly damp as this will lock in the moisture and will keep your skin well moisturised. For winters choose a moisturiser which is oil based and not water based, since during winters your skin needs something heavy duty.

3. Stay away from hot water- Who doesn’t love long hot showers during winters? But let me tell you that hot water is just as harmful in winters as in summers. Hot water strips off the natural oils from the skin making it dry and flaky. Thus, it is advisable to use lukewarm water for bathing or washing the face, etc.

4. Moisturise at night- Apart from moisturising during the day you can also moisturise at night as well. Since the skin is in repairing mode during the night time the moisturiser will work really well. Apply a generous amount of moisturiser on your feet, hands, knees and back. Don’t forget your face as well.

5. Apply sunscreen- Juts because it is winters doesn’t mean that you can step out of your house without any sunscreen. The winter sun is just as harmful as the summer one and thus you should apply a good quality SPF at least 30 minutes before heading out of the house.
