A new study has been conducted by the Northwestern University, which says that adults who go to bed late at night are associated with higher fast food consumption and low vegetable intake. This is very particular with men, especially. Results conclude that sleeping late at night is associated with lower BMI. Though the total caloric intake by the individual remains the same. But have you ever noticed when you stay up late at night, let’s say, to study for an examination next day, you 2-3 cups of coffee and munch on snacks. This increases your dairy intake and fast food consumption.

The principal investigator of the study says, “Our results help us further understand how sleep timing in addition to duration may affect obesity risk, it is possible that poor dietary behaviours may predispose individuals with late sleep to increased risk of weight gain.”

The study was conducted on 96 healthy adults who were aged between 18 to 50 years with the sleeping time 6.5 hours or more. The study was conducted over 7 days which involved an electronic device in measuring the sleep, food intake and dietary patterns. Data was then derived and analysed. The results are not as pleasant to please you.
