Camphor is popularly known as kapur in our Indian household is mainly used for the purpose of puja or kept in woolen clothes to keep cloth moths away. It is extracted from the Cinnamomum camphora tree which is mainly grown in Vietnam, China and Japan. The camphor trees can reach a height of over 100ft and only trees above the age of 50 years can produce oil which can be extracted from each and every part of the tree.
Camphor is ideally known for its therapeutic qualities and has been used for centuries. It has a lingering and distinct fragrance. The use of camphor for its medicinal properties is dated back to 600 AD. It has been used since then to treat many skin conditions and scalp related problems.
1. Treat the fungal infection- Fungal infections are pretty common especially on the feet. Fungal infections usually occur when you don’t dry your feet and a lot of times the moisture gets trapped in between your toes which then leads to fungal infections. In order to treat fungal infections, you can use camphor mixed with water.

2. Get rid of itchy skin- If your skin is getting very itchy you can apply it on the affected area mixed with water to get rid of the itching.

3. Fade away burn scars- Camphor also works great for fading away burn scars as well. Use a little bit of camphor mixed with water on the burn mark every other day. Just be careful not to apply it on a fresh burn or it may lead to a lot of discomfort and swelling.

4. Treat acne- Everyone has dealt with this on at least once in their lifetime at some point of time. The healing properties of camphor make it the perfect remedy for treating acne and pimples. Camphor oil is ideal for using for this purpose. Use a Q-tip to apply this oil on the pimples in order to treat them.

5. Cure rashes- If you are suffering from rashes then camphor is your best friend. Dissolve some camphor in water and apply this solution on the affected area. This solution will provide immediate relief to the affected area.

6. Heal cracked heals- Camphor also helps to cure cracked heels. All you need to do is take some water in a bucket and dissolve some camphor in it. Soak your feet in this water for at least 10 minutes. Then gently scrub your feet with a pumice stone to get rid of the dead skin cells.

7. Hair growth- Camphor, when combined with herbal oils, can boost the hair growth considerably. Camphor is known for its calming and soothing properties which relax the mind and nerves. Camphor oil is very effective in strengthening the hair from the roots. You can also prepare a hair mask by combining camphor oil, yogurt and eggs. Apply this mask on your scalp and hair once a week to notice results.

8. Prevent hair loss- Hair loss has become a very common problem nowadays. Apart from hair strengthening properties camphor also has hair growth properties which help in fighting hair loss. If you are suffering from hair loss massage your scalp with camphor oil. Bot make sure to mix it with some carrier oil such as coconut oil or olive oil.
